NO TICKET NEEDED if you just want to watch any of the three FREE Marimbafest public concerts: the Artist Concert (Friday), the Grand Concert (Saturday) and the Gala Concert (Sunday). You don't need to register - just come!
Do you only want to watch certain classes?
If you're only interested in seeing one or two classes, or are on a budget, then our SINGLE ENTRY PASS is for you! All Marimbafest workshops can be observed passively by any non-participants for just $30 per person per workshop. You don't need to register for this option. Simply buy the SINGLE ENTRY PASS at the door of the workshop you wish to go to!
Are you only interested in the Marimba Competition?
If you just want to participate in our Open Marimba Competition and not attend any classes, our affordable COMPETITION ONLY PASS is for you! This lets you participate fully in the Competition, where you will perform solo and potentially win some prizes. Patrick has been playing percussion since grade 6. Until university, he studied under Dan Adams, and won second place in the solo marimba category at the Washington State Solo/Ensemble competition. Patrick has performed in many events and was a student at the MalletLab Summer Intensive in 2018. At Vanderbilt University, he currently studies under Ji-Hye Jung.

Ben is an active member of his school music program, always performing in multiple events at school. Ben has enjoyed playing all manner of percussion instruments and styles, although marimba is one of his favourites .Ben is currently in year 10 studying at Willetton Senior High School.

Madeline started percussion in 2010 and has continued to play through high school. Madeline regularly participated in Kaboom Percussion’s Summer and Winter school holiday programs. Madeline was a member of WAYO Philharmonic in 2018 and now plays in WAAPA’s Defying Gravity percussion ensemble.

Joey began to show interest in music at the age of 5, initially learning the violin, and then learning the cello in year 4. In year 7, I began to learn percussion, switching to it as my main instrument in year 9 and playing it in my WACE exams. Joey was accepted into the playoffs of the WA Catholic Performing Arts Festival as the top percussion soloist in 2018, which allowed him to play solo marimba in the Perth Concert Hall for its final showcase.

Kian has played percussion since the age of 6 and has been mentored by Jojo Ho and Dr Lung Heung Wing. Kian has been awarded the Level 6 Diploma in Music Performance, Licentiate of Trinity College London Percussion Recital with Distinction in 2018. Kian has toured to many different countries, including the 21st Century International Arts Festival 2013 in Malaysia, Yamaha Australian National Band Championships 2014 in Brisbane, and World Music Contest Kerkrade 2017. Kian was invited by the Hong Kong Tourism Board to perform in front of the Chief Executive of HKSAR and government officials.

Arthur is a form 5 at Ying Wa College. He started learning percussion at the age of 5, achieving the ATCL performance diploma from the Trinity College in Percussion. Arthur has had several performances at school as including being instructed in the masterclass by the percussionists in the Li Biao percussion group . Arthur has followed the school in music tours to North America, Japan, Netherlands and Norway. Since 2013, Arthur has participated in the Hong Kong School’s Music Festival Marimba Solo Class several times, and has received 2nd place.

Claire is a percussion student at the University of Western Australia. Claire performs regularly in the West Australian Youth Orchestra, UWA Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Charity Orchestra, and various other local and national ensembles. Claire studies under Dr Louise Devenish and plays in resident percussion ensemble Piñata Percussion.

Tim has been hitting drums ever since hewas a toddler. Since then, Tim was taught percussion under the tutelage of Dennis Vrcic, and played in many ensembles including the Fremantle Symphony, South-West Philharmonic, Victoria Park Brass Band and many more. Tim is currently doing a first major in computer science and a second major in music studying percussion under Dr Louise Devenish. Although it is a lot of work, he is loving it.

Since starting percussion in year 8, Carissa enjoys every minute of performing and listening to percussion repertoire. Awarded the Tunley Scholarship in 2017, Carissa has performed at a variety of percussion events in Australia and overseas. Highlights include performing at the Australian National Academy of Music with Steve Schick in 2017, travelling to China in 2018 with WASO Chorus playing timpani for Orff’s Carmina Burana and most recently attending the AYO National Music Camp in 2019. Carissa is involved with a number of groups including WAYO, WACO and the City of Perth Marching Band. Carissa studies with Louise Devenish, Brian Maloney and Tim White.

Jacqui has been learning and playing percussion since Year 6, and started focusing on the marimba in Year 8. Jacqui is a part of PLC’s Senior Percussion group, Senior Concert Band and Latin Band. Jacqui has performed in multiple percussion soirees and music assemblies at school. Jacqui will be a part of the percussion section in a Combined Schools Orchestra Project that will be performing in August for charity, in conjunction with Scotch College, MLC, Lauriston and CGGS. Apart from playing percussion, Jacqui also plays the piano at Grade 8 level, and previously played cello up to Grade 5.

Mischa's passion for percussion started when she was nine years old. Mischa started with drumkit lessons for a year and a half. In December of 2017, Mischa started private lessons with Adam Tan to further expand her skills in marimba. Mischa is in her fifth year of experience playing in bands and ensembles, and has now performed multiple times in the Percussion All-Stars concert series. Mischa is now a proud member of the West Australian Youth Percussion Group (WAYPG).

As an active percussionist, Cheng has collaborated with various orchestras including the Hong Kong Chamber Wind Philharmonia, the Pro Arte Orchestra of Hong Kong, and has served as timpanist for orchestras including the China Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Symphony Cordiality HK. In 2017, Cheng participated in the 12th Keiko Abe International Marimba Academy at the Toho Gakuen School of Music (Tokyo, Japan), in which she studied marimba with Keiko Abe and members of Tchiki Duo.

Austin is a percussionist currently studying at New York University. Under the tutelage of Jonathan Haas, Sean Statser, Simon Boyar, James Saporito, Valerie Naranjo, Eriko Daimo and Josh Quillen, Austin works as a freelance percussionist who performs various styles of music (African, Orchestral, Korean etc). Austin has premiered pieces by Elliot Cole, Tom Nazziola and Zach Gulaboff Davis. When not performing, Austin can be found working on computers and exploring New York City.

Chris has been a member of Defying Gravity Percussion ensemble, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Faith Court Orchestra. Chris is also a member of the WA Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, WA Charity Orchestra and WA Wind Symphony. Chris performed at the Australian Percussion Gathering in Brisbane in 2016 and more recently at the Australian Marimba Competition in Melbourne, where he came 2nd in the open Vibraphone category.

Pavan Kumar Hari is a composer, performer, dancer and director who creates dramatic music for theatre, film, dance and the concert hall.
Pavan has been performing since the age of three in dance and music productions. He is currently completing the fourth year of his Bachelor of Music degree (Honours).
Pavan has been a member of the Western Australian Youth Orchestra, Western Australian Charity Orchestra, Western Australian Wind Symphony, and Defying Gravity Percussion Ensemble, and the Australian Youth Orchestra’s National Music Camp. He has also performed with the Perth Symphony Orchestra as a guest artist on tabla.

Kaeden is currently in Year 10 at Scotch College. He started learning drum kit at Scotch at the start of 2015, before switching into percussion at the end of 2017. Kaeden has performed at the school’s tattoo and concerts, foundation day as part of the military band and has travelled to Queensland for the Optimum Percussion Percussion Eisteddfod (2018) where his group performed as a drumline and percussion ensemble.

Jamie's love for playing music started when he was 10 and would hit different sized bricks with metal poles in my garden. After about a year or so of drumming lessons, Jamie joined a band and performed at pubs around Perth, before deciding that marimba suited him better. Jamie took up marimba intensively and has since been mentored by Adam Tan and Lee Stanley for the last 4 years to further his studies in percussion and marimba.

Adam picked up percussion during 2012 after watching and experiencing the Ju Percussion group during their tour in Melbourne. Adam started off on drum kit and non-tuned percussion and focused on jazz studies for a few years before slowly learning the tuned side of percussion. He really enjoys drumline and marimba and is mentored by Jude Hallum and Therese Ng.

When Sainath was 7, his family decided to get him a tabla to help kickstart his musical life. After many years of learning tabla, Sainath began lessons with Adam Tan and found he was a teacher full of energy, enthusiasm and knowledge. With this, Sainath has picked up marimba skills and repertoire quickly, commencing official lessons at Perth Modern School. Sainath is now a proud member of the West Australian Youth Percussion Group (WAYPG).

Sydney-based Australian percussionist and composer James Walker is an all-round percussionist, marimba soloist, and composer. He has been playing percussion for 6 years, completing his Grade 6 AMEB exam at the end of 2018 and is working towards Grade 7. James has participated in multiple marimba and percussion competitions, such as the Australian Percussion Eisteddfod both as a soloist and in ensembles, the Sydney Marimba Weekend in 2018 and 2019, the Australian Percussion Academy’s Holiday Workshops and the NSW State Band Camp. James is currently in Year 9 at Sydney Boys High School and studies elective music.

Freya is a first year at the University of Western Australia, studying mechanical engineering and music. Freya studies percussion under the instruction of Dr Louise Devenish and has previously been taught by Rosie Taylor and Josh Hogan. Freya has always regarded marimba as her favourite instrument, especially with her background in piano. Freya is a part of UWA’s Wind Orchestra, Piñata Percussion, Western Australia Youth Orchestra Philharmonic and combined UWA-WAAPA percussion ensemble Furniture Movers, and also regularly attended Kaboom Percussion’s summer camps. Freya hopes in the future she will continue to have amazing experiences through her music and knows her percussion friends will be with her all the way.
